Period Positive mobilizes our community to end period poverty — through access to products, open education, and sustained advocacy for those who need it most.
Why We Exist
Period poverty refers to the economic, social, and systemic barriers that prevent people from accessing menstrual products, proper sanitation, and accurate education about menstruation. It affects people in our own neighborhoods — and it's still taboo to talk about.
Miri Ahuja, a freshman at Evergreen Valley High School, launched the inaugural Period Positive Drive during Women's History Month — March 2026. The response was immediate: collection bins overflowed within days, and a local story became a region-wide conversation.
This is just the beginning. Future drives are planned. The goal is to grow — more cities, more partners, more impact.
"Everybody eventually needs a pad, and they might not be able to have the means to access, or afford the education that comes along with it. Donating ensures that everybody is aware and has access."
— Miri Ahuja, Founder

Our Framework
We collect and distribute period products to people experiencing homelessness and insecurity in Santa Clara County — partnering with HomeFirst and San José's public library network to get products where they're needed most.
We show up at community events, festivals, and school fairs to normalize conversations around menstruation — advocating for all genders to engage openly and for systemic improvements around period poverty.
We educate the youth of San José about menstrual health and the stigma that surrounds it. When men, boys, and the broader community understand periods, everyone benefits.
March 2026 Drive
Launched during Women's History Month, our inaugural drive collected and donated 4,278 individual period products to HomeFirst — serving hundreds of unhoused individuals across Santa Clara County.
Menstrual products are among the most requested and least donated items at shelters nationwide. Future drives are already in the works.

Partner With Us
We've had early, promising conversations with Always, Tampax, and HomeFirst. We're now seeking corporate sponsors, foundations, and community organizations to fuel future drives, expand our reach across the Bay Area, and build the infrastructure for lasting impact.
Authentic community reach and a youth-led story with real media traction — 8+ Bay Area outlets covered our first drive. We're not a polished campaign. We're a real movement with a track record, looking for partners who want to help build it.
"Youth-led. Community supported. For everyone." — Let's build this together.
